Home to some of the worst of the worst, even by wasteland standards. The Appalachian Alcatraz is strategically situation above a lake near the Thunder Mountain Nuclear Plant. This supermax prison is the last stop for any wastelander that chooses a life that leads to the suffering of the innocent. It is built to prevent any type of breakout. But in the rare case one does happen, the escaping convict has to brave the radiated waters only to end up in the hostile region known as the Mire.
